A relative of the oboe is the English horn. It is also known as the cor anglais, which is the French name for it.
The English horn has a pear-shaped bell and, like the bassoon, has a bocal that connects the reed to the instrument. The English horn is actually a larger and lower-pitched oboe with a deeper, gentler tone that sounds wonderful in slow, thoughtful solos.
