Learn about Lawrence Loh

I was born in southern California of Korean parentage and raised in Carlisle, Pennsylvania.

I earned my Artist Diploma in Orchestral Conducting from Yale, my Masters in Choral Conducting from Indiana University, and my Bachelor’s Degree and Certificate of Management Studies from the University of Rochester in NY.

I love conducting concerts that synchronize a live orchestra playing music with movies. I have led Star Wars Episodes 4 and 5, Jaws, Pixar in Concert, Disney in Concert, Wizard of Oz, Jurassic Park, and Singin’ in the Rain among others.

I have been hearing about how great the WV Symphony Orchestra is since I was working for the Pittsburgh Symphony as their resident conductor. When the WV music director position was announced, I had to come see and hear what the orchestra was all about!

In addition to conducting some of my favorites by Beethoven, Brahms and Rachamninoff, I have been lucky enough to conduct a lot of pops concerts with artists like Chris Botti, Idina Menzel, Ann Hampton Callaway, the Texas Tenors and more. I love movie music and have assisted composer and conductor John Williams on multiple occasions. Some of my favorite concerts to conduct are John Williams tribute concerts, dressed up as either a Jedi Knight or Dumbledore!
