Andrew and Amy Vaughan Student Symphonic Fellowship
West Virginia Symphony Orchestra announces Fellowship Results for 15-16 season
CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Young musician Devin Lai has been selected as the Student Symphonic Fellows in the Andrew and Amy Vaughan Fellowship Program through the West Virginia Symphony Orchestra (WVSO). This student was selected following interviews and auditions before a community panel in February 2016, in Charleston, WV.
Lai, freshman at Morgantown High School, studies piano and plays in the Morgantown High-University High School Orchestra and Pittsburgh Youth Symphony Orchestra. In addition, he was nominated the 2015 All-State Middle School Orchestra and has been selected as a winner of the Duquesne Young Artist National Solo Award. Lai also participates as a member of the Morgantown High Junior Varsity Golf Team.
As part of his Student Symphonic program activities, Devin Lai will sit on stage alongside WVSO musicians in different sections of the orchestra during rehearsals and meet renowned guest artists during the second half of the symphonic subscription series. He will conduct personal research about the music being performed by the WVSO.
Sponsored by Dr. Andrew and Amy Vaughan for thirteen consecutive years, this program continues to develop and encourage WV high school students in pursuing a career as professional musicians, educators, composers or conductors of the future. This monitored and time-intensive training program for serious music students remains a unique program among orchestras throughout North America.
